Ushers
The role of Ushers extends beyond merely opening doors. Ushers have a broader mission, aiming to embody the presence of Christ for everyone attending worship at the church. Essentially, we function as the welcoming hosts of the facility where both believers and newcomers gather to seek God.
Our Motto
We operate within the “5 T’s”: Teachable, Thoughtfulness, Tactfulness, Timeliness and Teamwork.
Teachable - Each Usher should be willing to be taught and learn new ways to improve themselves and their service.
Thoughtfulness - Ushers should be looking for ways to serve others in need. Whether it is opening a door or assisting visitors to a seat, no service is too big or small to handle positively and efficiently.
Tactfulness - Ushers should be able to communicate well while also having a keen sense of knowing what to say and do in order to alleviate disturbances during the service.
Timeliness - Ushers should be on time and provide timely assistance to those in need. Effective Ushers will also sense the flow of service and will not wait for additional instructions or assistance.
Teamwork - Ushers work as a whole to bring order to the flow of people during the service in as many ways as possible.
General Responsibilities
The responsibilities of an Usher include many tasks, such as attending church faithfully, arriving 30 minutes before the service, dressing appropriately, and following instructions from the Head Usher.
Ushers handle tasks like distributing bulletins, ensuring supplies at the Altar, and assisting with seating. They welcome congregants, address issues, and provide directions during various parts of the service.
Ushers assist the elderly and handicapped, manage offerings, and count attendance if required.
After the service, they secure the building, check temperatures, and provide emergency help if needed.
Additionally, in winter, ushers may assist with snow removal and walkway maintenance.
